Colour Notes For Children Colour Notes For Children - Book.

I'm thrilled to let you all know that my book Colour Notes For Children is now for sale at Tate Modern, in their book shop.

For those that aren't aware the book is an attempt to introduce young minds to the world of colour. It contains an introduction and 7 sections on the many characteristics of colour. The focus of the book is on how colours behave, how we see them and how they make us feel, and also how and why we use them in certain ways. All the images in the book, without exception, are of paintings and drawings made by children following the excercises. If nothing else I hope they are testament to the book's value.

You can read more about the book here and also purchase the book from Amazon here.

As part of my research at the Prince's School of Traditional Arts I have been looking at tiles from Damascus, which show the influence of Chinese iconography, and I am working on drawings and watercolours.

Next year I have been invited to show my work in Sacred Space Gallery and at Frost and Reed in London.

Earlier this year my book "Colour Notes For Children" was publishes in the U.S. I wrote it as a consequence of my residency at the Josef and Anni Albers Foundation and working with children for two terms in a primary school in Cambridgeshire. I hired Version Industries to design it for me and am making sure that a portion of the proceeds will be going to CAMFED International

During my residency at the Albers Foundation from Sept - Dec 2002, I drew from Chinese Landscape painting and calligraphy and I looked at Morandi still lives and Goya. I also looked at Hiroshige Fan designs.

I made drawings of 1, 2 or 3 cones in imaginary interiors and landscapes; the cones are half way to being human. Gradually I joined the Chinese marks to the Western pictorial space. Ultimately to have contrasting ideas rest together.

My plan is to develop these studies into large paintings and woodblock prints.
